Making yourself at home

When you are offered a new home with us, we’ll try and get you settled with as little fuss as possible.  We will give you a welcome pack including lots of information and leaflets to help you. leaflet, moving in, which you can view and download, may help you. It contains everything you need to know, including a handy list you can use for checking you have done everything you need to.

Your tenancy

You might want to visit our quick reference to your tenancy page.  When you first sign up for your tenancy, we will always ask you for two weeks rent in advance. Please tell us if you are worried about this.

Leaving your old home

Don’t forget to tell everyone who needs to know that you are leaving. The list could be quite long, so why not check our leaflet to see if you’ve covered everyone? Don’t forget to take final meter readings for your utilities. (If you are not sure how to do this, speak to our customer services team who will be able to advise you.

Your new home

Please tell us at least two days before you move in so that we can get things ready for you. Connecting your utilities is very important, as you don’t want to be left without heating and hot water. If you have your own gas appliances, they must be fitted by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Visit the Gas Safe website to find a list of registered engineers in your area.

 

Make sure you know where the stop taps for water, fuses and trip switches are. Our staff can help you with this, and the operation of your heating system.

Claiming Benefits

If you are going to claim Housing Benefit or Supporting People Grant, ask a member of staff for an application form. They can also help you fill it in.

Paying your rent

We will send you a rent payment (swipe) card, a direct debit form and standing order form. You must pay your rent from the start of your tenancy. Even if you are applying for Housing Benefit, you must pay the rent yourself until your claim is set up.

Insurance

We do not provide insurance for your personal items. You will find a contents insurance leaflet in your sign up pack.

 
A few weeks after you move into your home we will visit you to check that you are settling in and check you have all the information you need to live safely and happily with us.
