Horden residents urged to love their neighbours!

the launch of the good neighbour agreement

Our Good Neighbour, Good Landlord and Good Letting Agents Agreement was officially launched on Valentine's day by Durham County Council's cabinet member for housing, Councillor Clive Robson.

As part of our plan to sustain and develop Horden's numbered streets, we have worked alongside local housing providers Castledene and Acorn to draw up an agreement of 25 standards backed by 11 local organisations, including Horden Residents' Association, which will improve life for residents.

The standards put a responsibility on residents to, for example, consider neighbours, report anti-social behaviour, make sure children are good neighbours, maintain homes, keep yards clean and manage pets.

Among others actions, landlords and letting agents are asked to take part in monthly estate walkabouts, ensure residents have a named contact, respond to complaints quickly and take strong and swift enforcement action to deal with anti-social behaviour.

600 copies of the agreement have been delivered to Horden's numbered streets, and there are plans to encourage more residents, landlords and letting agents to sign up over the coming months.  Housing providers will meet regularly with community safety officers and Durham County Council staff to enforce the agreement and track progress.

You can download a copy of the agreement on our publications page, or email michael.fishwick@accentgroup.org for more information.
