We want you to be able to enjoy your home. If you are finding it difficult to move about in and around your home there may be changes we can make to, to enable you to do so. You may need a small aid such as a handrail fitting in the bathroom or a larger adaptation to the property.
Accent Peerless operates an Adaptation Service for various works required by residents to provide a better quality of life and to enable them to stay within their home in a safe manner. Works can include:
· Installation of ramps
· Grab rails
· Mopstick hand rails to stairwells
· Lever taps to sinks and baths
· Widening of footpaths (within your boundary)
· Improved lighting
· External Handrails
The ways in which your property can be adapted are as follows:
In respect of works undertaken by the Association these are in accordance with the guidance provided for housing associations by the College of Occupational Therapists (called Minor Adaptations without Delay).
Works also requested from Occupational Therapists are considered by the Association.
Works undertaken by the local authority will be based on an OT assessment. The OT will have either visited your home or assessed your needs on an individual basis. The OT will assess the most suitable adaptation for your current/ future needs and submit a recommendation to the Association with a brief assessment of the work required. The Association will then estimate the value of the work and submit it through one of the two processes detailed above.
Please note that work administered through the Disabled Facilities Grant route is carried out by the Local Authority contractors and managed by Local Authority officers with only notification to the Association for landlord’s approvals.
With Local Authority works any installation of ancillary equipment such as stair lifts, hoists etc will not be maintained or serviced by the Association. Separate measures should be undertaken by you to cover maintenance and repair.
For further information on the process, please email the Association or telephone your area surveying team. Alternatively, you may wish to contact the following numbers, the contact number would vary according to the area you live in:
